Douglas Baker Plastics Ltd was founded in 1974 and commenced the manufacture and supply of Composite Pigments to the Injection Moulding and Profile/Pipe Extrusion sectors of the Thermoplastics Industry.
With the purchase of Compound Extrusion equipment, the Company immediately expanded it`s production capabilities, adding Colour Compounding to the range of products. This rapidly progressed to the manufacture of Colour and Additive Masterbatch, creating the opportunity to establish additional products suitable for the Film and Blow Moulding Producers.
In 1987 Douglas Baker Plastics settled into its present premises at Bilston in the West Midlands. This location being ideally situated to service the Plastics Converters throughout the UK by virtue of the close Motorway connections existing within 1.5 miles ( 2 Kilometres ) of the manufacturing base. Deliveries to Ireland and Continental Europe are also easily accessible.

To support the continual development and expansion of the range of products, coupled with the desire to offer greater support to existing and prospective customers, investment for the Laboratory of Minolta Colour Measuring and Prediction Spectrophotometers was an early priority, as was the addition of a Prism Twin Screw Extruder Line for the production of Masterbatch and Compound samples.
Further investment for Production was made in the purchase of five Leistritz Twin Screw Masterbatch / Compounding Extruders, Brabender Loss-in-Weight Feeders, Cumberland and Accrapak Pelletisers and Gough Pellet Screeners.
In February 1993 the Company successfully achieved registration to ISO9001 : 2000
In 1997, to meet the challenge and demands of an ever changing market place and to once again expand it`s product range, the Company commenced a major investment plan, expending in excess of £1 Million on the acquisition of two APV MP 2065 Twin Screw Masterbatch Super-Compounder Extruders which were complemented by Brabender Multi-Feed Loss-In-Weight Feeder systems, further enhanced by the addition of Gala Underwater Die Faced Cutter systems to optimise pellet quality and flexibility of pellet geometry, further supported by Gough Pellet Screeners.
This major investment allowed the Company to confidently continue to expand the production of Technical Compounds, Flame Retardants, Blowing Agents, Single Pigment Concentrates and others.
In 1999 the Laboratory facilities have been further enhanced by the addition of two Boy 22M Procan Microprocessor Injection Moulding Machines, to support the requirements for fast completion of Colour matchings.
1999 sees yet another Milestone in the Company`s successful history, as it is proud to be celebrating it`s 25th Anniversary in Thermoplastics as one of the market leaders in the manufacture of Technical, Speciality, Colour and Additive Masterbatch in the UK.
